Dare to think about CAP in New Zealand, even with 6.0 in IELTS !
CAP – Competence Assessment Programme is known to all foreign educated Nurses who wish to get licensed in New Zealand and practice as R.N. in future.
This 45 days short term programme demands IENs (International Educated Nurses) to prove their proficiency in English with a test score of 7.0 each in IELTS ( may be even clubbed) and some previous work experience as R.N. A currently effective registration as R.N in the home country or the country where he/she has been trained also is required.
- 1. The most sought out way to do this programme is enrolling on a 6-12 months UG / PG programme in a New Zealand institution which also offer CAP. The popular options are a 1 year top up BSc in Nursing OR a PG Certificate / Diploma in any professional course like infection control OR, PG degree in Nursing.
- 2. Those without the required test score but with at least 6.5 in IELTS should think about BSc Nursing1 year (top up) OR any PG programmes as mentioned above.
- 3. Those with 6.0 overall in IELTS can club a 1 year Top up BSc in Nursing with a 6 months ESNR – English Studies for Nursing Registrations – programme. This ESNR programme even has an inbuilt Care Assistant Cert. level training part that makes IENs eligible for Care assistants work.
Applicable to only 2&3: Students should work hard towards achieving the required higher level of English skills while studying for the top-up Bachelor Degree.
It is always recommended to study at an Institution which also offers CAP to make the transition easy. These Institutions normally offer CAP at the price of 25% to its own students apart from reserving a place for CAP in advance.
NB: Our NZ associate offers all assistance including part time job search to IENs who study at our selected institutions.
