Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University has started counting of its age since 1784. At first it existed as medical faculty of Lviv University.

Currently the University provides instruction to about 5150 graduate students (including 887 foreign citizens). Since 1997 the teaching of foreign students in English has been launched and is rapidly developing.

At 79 departments are occupied about 1169 scientists: 111 full professors, 359 associate professors, 690 assistant professors, including 117 DSci and 611 PhD degree holders.

University library contains 522 000 volumes of textbooks, manuals and other relevant medical literature. Among these books – around 2000 volumes of textbooks for English-medium students.

University has been included into the directory of the World Health Organization, into the directory of the Central European Universities, admitted to the European Association of International Education in 2000

At the International Exhibition “Modern Educational Institutions - 2010” the University was awarded by the Golden Medal of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in the nomination “The Competent Approach in Educational Activity of Higher School”.
