ALLOWANCES FOR NURSES IN GERMANY

Have you known that nursing has claimed the #1 spot for the most trusted profession (honesty and ethics) for a record 20th time?

If you are a registered nurse, give a pat yourself on the back.

Depending on their work timing, any profession possibly comes with certain perks, incentives, and allowances.

Are you wondering if there are extra benefits if you are a registered nurse who plans to become a registered nurse in Germany (or planning to be a nurse)?

Nursing with allowances

Nursing jobs in Germany offer captivating allowances for nurses. Many do not know the privileges of being a registered nurse in Germany.

First, let’s have an idea about what allowance is that everyone keeps talking about.

Let us debunk this below.

What is allowance?

Allowance is the employee’s money for work apart from the base salary for a particular time frame.

Does a nurse get an allowance for their work in Germany?

Yes, they do!

The allowances they receive are mentioned in the sponsored healthcare industry employment contract before joining. Please take note of it before joining the organisation.

There are certain types of allowance that a nurse can get.

They are

Let us know each of them in brief.

Shift Allowance

There are always shifts while working as a nurse. If the nurse works extra hours for another shift (i.e., not in their usual shift), they will be paid a shift allowance.

The amount can vary depending upon the number of hours worked in another shift.

Care Allowance

This allowance covers people who work for someone who has a chronic illness (mental or physical) or a disability. They will be paid a care allowance for the number of hours worked for that person.

Intensive Allowance

Many nurses are employed in the intensive unit to assist the doctors during emergencies. Nurses get an intensive allowance for the time worked in the intensive care unit.

Geriatric allowance

A Geriatric’s work is with the elderly. Nurses are paid for the hours they care for the senior citizens, such as helping them in day-to-day activities, motivating them, planning leisure activities, and assisting them whenever necessary.

Rotating shift allowance

Rotating shifts are when a person works in shifts at different times during the week. When the employee works OT (overtime), they are paid depending on the number of hours worked under the rotating shift allowance.

Now a question will arise.

What if the nurse already works under one of these allowances as their regular day job?

The nurse will get extra vacation days with more rotating shift work in that case. The nurses will also receive surcharges when working weekends, at night, or on public holidays. The onus is that these surcharges come tax-free and contribution-free.

Isn’t that cool?
