The university traces its history to the Riga Medical Institute, established in 1950. That gives its medical education tradition more than 75 years of experience.

RSU is a public institution, founded and recognised by the Latvian state. Its English-taught Medicine places charge tuition; public status does not mean a free course.

RSU Medical Education Technology Centre
RSU describes its METC as Latvia’s only simulation centre and the largest in the Baltic States. Its facilities support clinical skills training across healthcare disciplines.
Hospital learning at Riga Stradins University
The RSU Study Centre at Riga East University Hospital has 23 classrooms and four simulation rooms. Task trainers, patient simulators and virtual reality tools support practical learning alongside hospital experience.
Supervised patient care
The Medicine programme introduces patient work from Year 3. Clinical placements build on earlier science teaching and practical preparation.
Latvian is part of the course and matters when speaking with local patients, even though teaching is in English.
QUALITY AND PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION
Riga Stradins University accreditation
RSU Medicine accreditation by AHPGS
In March 2026, RSU announced five-year accreditation of its Medicine programme by AHPGS, the German Accreditation Agency for Health and Social Sciences.
AHPGS is recognised by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). RSU reports that the assessment followed WFME’s 2020 basic medical education standards.
WFME recognises accrediting agencies; AHPGS accredits the Medicine programme. These are different roles in medical education quality assurance.
Check the licence you will need after graduation
Accreditation, a medical degree and permission to practise are separate matters. Plan for the regulator, examinations and language requirements in your intended country of work.
For India, check NEET eligibility and the applicable NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate requirements before accepting an offer. Obtain written details of the course, internship, training locations and eligibility for registration in Latvia.
RSU’s final-year clinical placements must not be assumed to satisfy every NMC internship requirement. NMC does not endorse a list of foreign medical universities.

Riga Stradins University entry requirements
Send your school certificate and full marks statement for assessment. A subject-by-subject review is more useful than an overall percentage alone.
RSU academic eligibility
RSU’s published Medicine guidance sets a 70% minimum in required subjects. Biology and/or Chemistry are considered alongside English and Mathematics. Studying both sciences is advantageous.
Country-specific rules and accepted subject substitutions matter. The 2026/27 procedure permits Physics to replace Mathematics for certain specialised school systems, including India. RSU must assess your documents.
Meeting minimum grades allows consideration. It does not secure a place.
English requirements for RSU Medicine
RSU requires English at B2 level or higher. Accepted test minimums include IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 80 and PTE Academic 51.
An English-medium school education may meet RSU’s exemption conditions. Provide evidence of the teaching language when requested. Confirm immigration requirements separately.
RSU interviews and selection
The 2026/27 rules include online motivational interviews for relevant non-EU/EEA applicants. Prepare to explain your choice of medicine, RSU, Riga and Latvia. Follow RSU’s instructions for your application.

The published 2026/27 schedule lists €13,500 per year for Medicine. International students pay tuition by semester. Your study contract and offer set the payment terms.

Your RSU budget beyond tuition
Allow separately for accommodation, deposits, food, utilities, insurance, transport, travel, residence formalities and study materials. Any KCR service fee should be stated separately in your agreement.
Ask for a written first-year budget and a six-year funding plan. Check what must be paid before travel and what remains payable after arrival.

What should I send KCR for an initial RSU assessment?
There is no general rule giving Indian applicants only two to four seats per class. Check any programme-specific selection or allocation rules.
